Nicole Gee Kabul Attack

According to the announcement of the Department of Defense, Nicole along with other 12 U.S. military service members and dozens of Afghans who died that day in an attack at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport.

Nicole Gee was one of the 11 Marines, 169 Afghans, and two other U.S. service members.

Only recently, i.e. on 21 August, Nicole had posted a moment during the mission on Instagram, that showed her carrying a baby, as she and her fellow service members helped evacuated refugees. “📍Kabul, Afghanistan I love my job🤘🏼”, she had captioned it.

Nicole Gee Family

Nicole Gee’s maiden name was Herrera. She had lost her mom in 2019 and now joined her in heaven after the Kabul attack.

Four months into the mourning and Nicole had taken to her Instagram to write — “Missing you comes in waves, but tonight I’m drowning, Ma. 4 months without you on this earth & being one phone call away💛.”

The surviving family and relatives of Nicole are now mourning her early demise. Her father Richard Herrera said he was proud of her. That his daughter was always a good student and that “What she did was unexpected. Everything she did, she always excelled.”

“After I saw the attacks, I assumed she was safe. And then, the next morning, I got the call that she didn’t make it.”

Nicole attended Oakmont High School in Roseville. Graduated in 2016, she was always a straight A’s student.

Further, Nicole’s older sister by two years, Misty Fuoco, heard the bad news from Nicole’s husband. “He gave me the news and I probably stared at him for two minutes just silent and in disbelief,” said Misty who had a lot of plans that they had made for when Nicole was back.

On Facebook, Nicole has also listed aunts Jaimi Lane Gallez, Cori Webster, Jodi Cantner, and Cheryl Herrera Juels; cousins Tia LeeAnn Maldonado, Kamrin Webster-Aplanalp and Steffani Moody, grandfather Dennis Herrera, and Thorten Herrera as family members.

Her Career In The Military

Nicole had enlisted in Marine Corps in 2017 and was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 24, providing ground electronics transmission systems maintenance.

So, the maintenance technician with 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, in her career, was awarded the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense and Global War on Terrorism Service Medals.

Before she was promoted to sergeant and deployed to Afghanistan from Kuwait in early August 2021, Nicole was assigned to recruitment training at Parris Island in South Carolina, the School of Infantry-East at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, the Aviation Accession and Primary Military Occupational Specialty School in Florida, and the Marine Corps Communications-Electronics School in Twentynine in California.

Basically, Nicole’s knack for helping people had drawn her to a job in Marine.

Amid the dark hours, Nicole’s family and friends are still proud of her as they believe she died doing what she loved most. And with people showing their concern from all over the world has made the tough time bearable.

U.S. Congresswoman Doris Matsui, D-Sacramento, had described Nicole as “a brave member of our region’s community” while honoring the victims.

Also, recently, the Roseville Joint Union High School District released a statement saying Nicole’s service to the country will never be forgotten.

Nicole Gee Husband

Nicole and her husband Jarod Gee had officially decided on forever and always, i.e., to get married on 17 August 2016.

At the time of the attack, Jarod, also a marine, happened to be in the Sacramento area visiting family during the attack that took his wife’s life.

In a GoFundMe campaign’s page organized by Nicole’s sister, she wrote how Nicole and Jarod had this bond “like nothing” she has ever seen. That, Nicole, was everything to Jarod, “the bright sun to his life.” (The campaign aimed to raise $100,000 had collected $76,387 so far.)

Jarod was promoted to sergeant early in February 2021, and Nicole was happy she could make it to the event.
