Josie Totah publicly came out as transgender through TIME Magazine in August 2018 then changed her first name from Joseph to Josie.
Over the interview, Josie Totah shared that she preferred the pronouns: she, her, and hers. Also, she identified herself as a female, “specifically as a transgender female.”
And the change wasn’t something that “just happened”.
Josie recalled that when she was five, she would always tell her mother that she wished she was a girl. She was the type of kid who “wanted to sing with the girls and not play soccer with the boys.”
Also, Josie developed anxiety and enormous fear of male puberty. About people judging her as a “gay boy”, she would correct people by telling them she identified as LGBTQ.
